Ninja Foodi Pulled Pork

I remember like it was yesterday the first time I heard about pulled pork. My mum showed me this pulled pork recipe in a magazine and told me how much she wanted to try it and that it looked yummy.

Fast forward a few years and it became our most eaten slow cooker recipe and even all these years later, we love to make our slow cooker Asian pulled pork whenever there is a sale on pork shoulders.

But it wasn’t until a trip to Disney World and Universal Studios that I realised that pulled pork tasted best with tossed in barbecue sauce. In fact, we were at an all you can eat buffet at Aquatica and there were dishes just full of barbecue pulled pork and I was in total food heaven.

And while it is wonderful to cook a slow cooker version of pulled pork and then smother it in barbecue sauce, what was always missing was being able to make your pork shoulder crispy.

That is why I love to make a Ninja Foodi Pulled Pork. You see, you can combine the Ninja Foodi air fryer for browning your meat and giving it a crispy coating. Then you can use the pressure cooker to make perfectly tender pulled pork and that is exactly what I wanted to show you how to do today.

Ninja Foodi Pork Shoulder

You can use any pork shoulder to make pulled pork in the Ninja Foodi. Though I do prefer to use a boneless pork shoulder. That is because if you do bone in, you get less meat and you don’t get to enjoy as much pulled pork!

Ninja Foodi Boston Butt

Or if you live in the US you may call it a Boston Butt. Both a Boston Butt and a pork shoulder come from a similar place and both pork joints are flavoursome when cooked.

Many will tell you that a Boston butt is better, but I have enjoyed both many times over the years and don’t find much difference.

Or if I have to choose, I love to save money on groceries and will get whichever is cheapest.

How To Make Pulled Pork In A Ninja Foodi?

You are probably wondering why we use both the Ninja Air Fryer and the Ninja Pressure Cooker and what makes this method so good.

Well, this is because you can use the air fryer to give your pork shoulder a wonderful sear and make the edges nice and crispy. You can also ensure that your seasonings are getting right in the pork with an air fryer.

I have tried this without the air fryer and focused on the Ninja Foodi sear function, but it never does a good enough job.

Then once you have your air frying done, you can pressure cook your pork shoulder and then you have the tender pulled pork that you associate with the slow cooker.

How Long To Cook Ninja Foodi Pulled Pork?

You will be impressed with the quick cook times, especially when you compare it to the slow cooker and the 5 hours on high that you are probably used to.

Firstly, there is a 15 minute air fry cook time. To make sure your pork is seasoned beautifully and then it gets an even sear.

Secondly, there is a one hour pressure cook. This ensures that the pork is ridiculously tender and perfect for shredding and enjoying. In the past I have followed recipes when I first got an instant pot that recommended 45 minutes. Well, I wasn’t impressed as it felt too tough. But an hour was the winning cook time.

Notes

Quick. Because the Ninja Foodi has just been in use for the air fryer, when it comes to pressure cooking your pork shoulder, it will come to pressure fast.

Reserve. I love to reserve the leftover liquid and then use it for some pork stock or pork gravy for another meal.

Sauce. You can see any barbecue sauce that you like, or make your own.
