Homemade fig jam goes with so many things. It doesn’t hurt that my kids and husband adore this stuff, either. Making food with wholesome ingredients that the entire family will eat brings a smile to my face, and I am sure it will yours, too.

This simple fig jam recipe (no pectin needed!) is practically effortless to make and the result is delicious. You just might be surprised at how easy it is to make fig jam preserves right in your kitchen:

  • Prep the figs. Cut the tops off the figs and place them in a large pot.

  • Cook the fig jam. Add honey, lemon zest, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cardamom, cinnamon, and a little h2O, and simmer for 10-20 minutes.

  • Blend. Blend the homemade fig jam in a blender, or use an immersion blender, to finish chopping up the figs.

Voila – now you know how to make fig jam! Just transfer it to glass jars and store in the fridge.

Can You Put Hot Fig Jam In The Refrigerator?

Yes, you can put hot fig jam in the refrigerator. For best results, allow the jars to cool on the counter for approximately 10-15 minutes. The fig jam will still be hot, but slightly cooled.

Then stick the jars in the fridge, and you can serve it once it’s completely cold.

  • Crackers – You can use any crackers that you like, but my favorite are almond flour crackers. They make a perfect fig jam appetizer!

  • Meat – Whether you are making pork, chicken or steak you will be shocked by how delicious old fashioned fig jam is paired with the meat. Use it as a sauce when you are baking or cooking on the skillet, and your taste buds will thank you.
  • Salad – Combine your favorite vinaigrette-based dressing with homemade fig jam and your salad won’t be boring or typical anymore! Try adding it to the dressing in maple mustard harvest salad.

Yes, you can freeze homemade fig jam! In order to freeze this fig jam recipe, just pour it into glass jars, put on lids and set them in the freezer. You can also use glass bowls or even freezer bags if you don’t have jars on hand. The fig jam will last approximately 1 year in the freezer.

TIP: If using jars or bowls, leave a bit of room at the top, because the jam might expand when frozen.

To thaw frozen fig jam, fill a bowl with warm water and place the jar in the bowl. Let it sit for 30-45 minutes, until the jam has thawed.

TIP: After you defrost the fig jam, it’s not recommended to refreeze it. So, only get out what you want to use.
